From this date, LMT batteries, industrial batteries above 2 kWh, and EV batteries placed on the EU market must carry a Digital Battery Passport accessible via QR code.

Battery Passport data spans the full upstream supply chain — cell manufacturer, cathode supplier, mineral origin, recycler. Pulling this together takes months of supplier engagement, data collection, and evidence-linking.

Battery Regulation 2023/1542
Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 12 July 2023 concerning batteries and waste batteries establishes the Battery Passport as a mandatory digital record. Article 77 sets the requirements for the Battery Passport and the unique product identifier accessible via QR code.
