Frequently asked questions
Organized by audience. The honest version — what we do, what we don't claim, and what's still planning-assumption vs real legal deadline.
For brands & manufacturers
What is SellSafely?
An evidence-backed product-data platform. Brands and manufacturers upload supplier files (certificates, test reports, BOMs, declarations); SellSafely extracts structured data, links it to product records, and produces UNTP-aligned JSON-LD passport outputs with GS1 Digital Link URLs. Decision-centric review keeps your team in control before anything publishes.
What is a Digital Product Passport?
A structured, machine-readable record of a product's evidence and compliance data, accessible via a unique product identifier (typically a GS1 Digital Link URL or QR). EU ESPR mandates DPPs across multiple product groups; battery passports are mandatory Feb 2027.
Do I need clean supplier data to start?
No. SellSafely is built for messy real-world supplier files. Day three of onboarding the dashboard typically shows a few dozen decisions that unblock thousands of SKUs.
Can I use the same data for CSRD, EPR, and Green Claims?
Yes. Build once, comply with everything. The same structured product record feeds DPPs, EPR fee calculation, CSRD reporting, and Green Claims substantiation. Cross-regulation routing is a roadmap item; the data foundation is what makes it possible.
Do you replace our PIM / ERP?
No. SellSafely is a structured-evidence layer that runs alongside existing systems. Integration with PIM/ERP is on the roadmap; today we ingest from the files you already have and produce passports + JSON-LD downstream.
Standards & technical
What does "UNTP-aligned JSON-LD" actually mean?
Output is valid JSON-LD whose @context references the UN Transparency Protocol vocabulary (https://vocabulary.uncefact.org/untp/) plus schema.org core. We do not claim full UNTP VC issuance — UNTP is pre-production status. See /guides/untp-aligned-json-ld for the full breakdown.
Is the URL pattern GS1 Digital Link compliant?
Yes. Sample passport URLs follow /01/{gtin14}/21/{serial} per GS1 Application Identifier conventions. Same URL serves human passport (HTML) and machine-readable JSON-LD via content negotiation.
How does the resolver work?
Same passport URL, multiple views: public (HTML), JSON-LD (machine), and authority-tier (richer with evidence references). Linkset description per RFC 9264 is on the roadmap.
Do you do material allocation or material ledger accounting?
Material allocation — per-product evidence-linked claim records. We do NOT operate a certified material ledger (Trackit-style certified-balance reconciliation). See /guides/material-allocation-vs-ledger.
Can I download a sample JSON-LD without booking a demo?
Yes. /sample-passport has 3 sector samples (battery, textile, steel) with downloadable UNTP-aligned JSON-LD per sector. No signup, no email gate.
Security & data
Where does my data live?
EU regions (eu-west-1 + eu-central-1). Analytics on PostHog EU cloud. Contact form via AWS SES (eu-west-1). Cookieless analytics — no persistent visitor identity. See /security for the full access model + sub-processors.
How long do you retain data?
Contact-form submissions: 24 months. Analytics events: 365 days (aggregated longer). Server logs: 30 days. Published passports + evidence: 10+ years per ESPR availability requirement.
Do you have ISO 27001 / SOC 2?
Not today. We will not list a certification we don't hold. Path to ISO 27001 is on the roadmap. See /security for what we DO have (access model, retention, sub-processors, DPA available).
Can I get a DPA?
Yes. Email dpo@sellsafely.ai — we send the standard DPA within one business day. Sub-processors list is maintained on /security.
Regulation & timing
When does the EU textile DPP become mandatory?
Honest answer: not yet adopted. The textile delegated act is in the ESPR working plan with expected publication late 2026 / Q1 2027 and compliance ~2028 — but those are planning assumptions, not fixed legal deadlines. We plan against them; we do not claim them as facts.
What about steel?
Same status as textile — ESPR working plan, no delegated act adopted. CBAM emissions reporting is live and shares data with future steel DPP scope.
Battery passport timing?
Real legal deadline: 18 February 2027 for battery passport (industrial + EV batteries). Due-diligence obligations: 18 August 2027 (postponed from original date). Source: EU Battery Regulation 2023/1542.
Will SellSafely register passports with the EU DPP Registry?
When it goes live (announced for July 2026). Registry adapter is roadmap; passports today are GS1 Digital Link-addressable and UNTP-aligned but not yet registry-registered.
Pricing & pilot
Why don't you publish per-SKU pricing?
Pilots are scoped to product count, supplier complexity, and document volume — flat per-SKU pricing isn't honest until those variables are known. We share indicative ranges in the first 15-minute call.
What does a pilot include?
Up to ~500 SKUs, document upload + AI extraction, readiness dashboard with decision-centric review, versioned passport snapshots with audit history, GS1 Digital Link-addressable passport URL + QR + UNTP-aligned JSON-LD export, dedicated onboarding support.
How long does a pilot take to set up?
Typically 1–2 business days. Bring your supplier files + a SKU list and we have a working readiness output within the first session.
What's the engagement model after a pilot?
Successful pilots transition to ongoing platform fee + usage. Enterprise engagements are case-by-case with API access, SSO/SAML, custom rules, support SLA, and procurement-readiness controls.
Still have a question?
Most procurement / technical / regulatory questions get answered better in a 15-minute call than in async email.
